I know that today is April Fool’s Day and this blog post probably would have been a lot more interesting if I’d done some exciting prank. Truth is, I’ve never been too good with pranks. It is just too easy for a prank to turn from all in good fun to mean, and that’s a line I cross too easily.
So we celebrated One Cent Day. Everyone in this photo is holding up a penny that was made the year they were born. We even found a penny from 1927. Could that be worth something? (Answer: Not really.)
A coin made in Philadelphia in 1927. Just think. All of the people, businesses, situations, places. I mean, the number of coins I see carelessly passed over on the sidewalk, yet this one still made it almost 90 years of being tossed around and ended up in my sister’s coin jar in Utah. That’s something.
I have a friend that will never pass a penny without picking it up. He does this in memory of his father, which I think is beautiful. Just imagine the stories these coins could tell. It almost makes me want to get in to coin collecting.
Almost.
