November 17th – National Take A Hike Day

Again. I live in Manhattan.

I do live across the street from Central Park so I could have gone for a “hike” in there somewhere, but as with most days, I had to work this activity around my rather hectic schedule.

So my version of a hike today was getting off the train 20 blocks early and walking the rest of the way to rehearsal. What a hike.

It was actually really nice. I’d been cooped up in my little apartment all day working, and the train was crowded and hot. But the nyc weather tonight was brisk. I was listening to some good music and walking with and past people who were all anxious to get where they are going.

As the weather gets colder, I’m getting more excited for my winter walks. The city in the summer is beautiful and fun, but I love it when all the people go inside. When it’s freezing or snowing, a lot less people go for walks. That’s when it’s quiet. And those are my favorite times.

Some highlights of my walk tonight included The Empire State Building being purple, this button (belated Button Day picture that I could have posted on Sunday), and seeing my first Christmas Tree window display.

Tonight was a good reminder of a few things. First, that this is a wonderful city even when it’s not. Second, it doesn’t matter if you call it a hike or a walk as long as it’s getting you out and moving.

What’s Tomorrow?
