June 26th – National Chocolate Pudding Day & Equality

This little blog is a source of pride for me. I don’t have a lot of readers, but I like to think that those who do read it enjoy it (or you wouldn’t be coming back). I try to avoid politics but I just can’t today because I’m happy.

Two days ago I was feeling down about the world and having a hard time seeing how we are going to get better and move forward, but today was a win. I know we’re going to look back on today and remember where we were. Our kids are going to learn about this in History class and some very inspirational movies are going to be made. Today the Supreme Court of the United States of America ruled Same Sex Marriage is legal in all 50 states. (See the New York Times Article Here.)

While the corner of my world is all very happy about this ruling, the country in general seems to be quite divided. There are many who are very much against this. I imagine these are people who are scared that somehow this is going to affect them negatively. It probably isn’t.

The only way this will affect you if you are not gay is that your friends and loved ones will be able to get married and throw parties that you may be invited to. You are not losing your rights just because someone else is getting theirs. There is not a limited quantity of human rights.

So I celebrate today for all of the people who have fought and suffered to be recognized as equals. I am grateful to live in a country that did the right thing today. Even if you are against this or it scares you, you’ll come around. You did on Civil Rights and Women’s right to Vote.

Of course, it was also National Chocolate Pudding Day.

This is the first time I’ve ever made pudding from scratch and let me tell you, it is SO MUCH BETTER than Jello Pudding. It only took an extra couple of minutes. I may never make Jello Pudding again.

I found this recipe on AllRecipes.com and chose it because I had all of the ingredients (except cornstarch) and it didn’t require a microwave (which I don’t have). My friend has just moved in to my building, so I borrowed cornstarch from her. I also think her living in my building is pretty much the greatest.

I divided the recipe in half and put the 2 servings into cups. I’m quite proud of myself that I only ate one serving because golly it was tasty. I ate it when it was still warm, then I’ll eat the second cup tomorrow when it’s cold. I imagine both will be good.

What’s Tomorrow?
