This is a shoutout to one of a Stage Manager’s most useful tools. Everything needs to be documented, but nothing is ever set in stone. I bought this little guy when I got my first SM gig in college. 7 years, 20+ shows, 5+ cities, and many mistakes later – it still looks mostly new.

I feel lucky most of the time that I’m in rehearsal. As far as jobs go, I think I’ve got a really fun one. I work as a Stage Manager in theatre. I’m in charge of keeping rehearsals on time and productive, and facilitating communication between the director, actors, and designers during the rehearsal process.

It’s a crazy life. I’m on a constant job hunt for work that doesn’t pay all that well, but requires me to live in the most expensive cities in the world. I say goodbye to friends and coworkers just when we are really starting to settle into a groove. The hours are ridiculous. I work
