I celebrated today down in Battery Park. This is the East Coast Memorial.

1941 * * * 1945

“Erected by the United States of America in proud and grateful remembrance of her sons who gave their lives in her service and who sleep in the American Coastal Waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

INTO THY HANDS, O LORD”

Along with this monument, there are 8 large walls containing the names of 4,609 servicemen who died in coastal waters during World War II.

It was a lovely night spent walking among Battery Park, remembering those who sacrifice their lives for my freedom, and finding joy in the simple life I get to lead because of that.

There was a moment when the sun was setting. I stood looking out over the water. In the distance there were boats, helicopters, and a dad playing soccer with his kids. It was quiet, and for a second, it didn’t feel like New York at all.

I really do love it here, but I’m so grateful for those moments.

What’s Tomorrow?
