February 8th – National Kite Flying Day

I’m super confused about why this holiday is in early February. Whose idea was that?

First things first, I made sure this was legal. With NYC you never know.

“Kite flying is permitted without a permit anywhere in Central Park where ther are large, open landscapes away from trees. Please respect closures due to fences, red flags and Quiet Zones. Do not leave any string or other materials behind that might entangle wildlife.” – Central Park Website

(That’s exactly how it’s written. Even the typo.)

Oh good. I’m glad I don’t need A PERMIT. Geeze. Where do I live?

So today I was the weirdo (awesome person) in Central Park trying to fly a kite in February. The obstacles? Gusty winds instead of a breeze, and snow instead of grass. I only fell once….

Flying a kite is super fun though. And if it gets me out of the house and into the park, then today’s celebration was a success. No matter how long the kite was actually in the air.

What’s Tomorrow?
