February 18th – National Battery Day

How much do you rely on batteries in your life? If you are anything like me, it’s way more than even 5-10 years ago.

One of my favorite things is my Zagg Sparq. It is a portable battery that can charge a phone 4 times, a tablet, or multiple devices at once. I never go anywhere without it. I’ve never had my phone die in the middle of the day.

My greatest desire for the future of phones is that someone will invent a better battery. We need a battery that is light and small that can last for days. Remember those Nokias? I miss that battery life. For now though, we need to rely on accessories like the Zagg Sparq, or apps that can help us manage our battery life.

If you’ve got an iPhone, Battery Doctor is a popular app that’s supposed to help you boost your battery and get more out of your phone.

Android’s updated OS has a nice new feature called Battery Saver. When your battery gets below 15% your phone will ask if you want to turn on battery saver. It will turn off the programs running in the background killing your battery and that last 15% can really be stretched out. When I’ve got a really long day ahead of me where I know I won’t have the option to charge, I’ll put my phone on Battery Saver for the whole day. I still get calls and texts, so I’m not missing anything important. This is an Android Lollipop feature that I’m a huge fan of.

As for stretching your battery life on your laptop? This is something I’m still trying to master. I turn down the brightness as far as I can, turn off the backlight on my keyboard, and close any unnecessary applications. If I’m not using the internet, I’ll turn of WIFI so that my computer isn’t constantly searching. It’s helped a lot. I’ve never had to resort to an application or getting a new battery. So far so good.

Let me know if you’ve got any tips on how to extend your battery life. Or ideas on how to invent a better battery. That would be helpful too.

What’s Tomorrow?

I totally hate the batter life in all my expensive smartphones, i’ve used. It was a total waste to time. They die every time while browsing, reading searching. I always carry a charger wherever i go. Its really an annoying thing to do.
