I won’t go so far as saying that I worship these guys, but I sure do love them! I’ve gotten a lot more in to projects since moving in to this new apartment in January.
A few weeks ago I built a bookcase.
The bottom compartment holds a litter box and there is a hole in the side for the cat to enter. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out, but still plan on putting a back on it in the future.
It was all made from wood that I found in the basement of the apartment building. I have a lot left over, so I’m going to put some shelves up the wall to organize my desk and entertainment center. So, for National Worship Of Tools Day I got started on that project. The wood is now all cut and painted, I just need to do the actual attaching.
For the necessary anchors, screws, bits, and brackets I went to Garcia Hardware Store on 109th and Columbus. This will definitely be my go to hardware store from here on out. They were super helpful without talking down to me. This is the main thing I look for. I have some questions and I am female, but I’m not incompetent. Speak to me like I’m an equal.
If you are in the city and in need of a good hardware store, definitely check out Garcia.
These tools:
- DeWalt 18v Drill – I got this Compact Drill/Driver Kit from Home Depot for $99. Awesome deal.
- Rockwell Saw – This is a Compact Circular Saw. Also from Home Depot for $90. I’ve used it for these two projects, but I feel like I will be finding a lot of uses for this thing. The only down side is that I’m making these cuts in my bedroom, so there is SO MUCH cleaning to do after. If I get a shop vac or something, the saw will attach to it directly.
What’s Tomorrow?
