May 9th – National Butterscotch Brownie Day

Given the choice, I’ll always choose chocolate. So it’s good that these celebrations and this blog encourage me to make and try things that aren’t chocolate.

I found today’s recipe on Meals.com.

Chewy Butterscotch Brownies

I cut the recipe in half because I still don’t own a 13×9 pan. I could have used the other half of the batter in my muffin tin, but this ended up making a nice amount. I only have 1 roommate, and he doesn’t seem to like treats as much as he should. So cutting this in half is the best thing for everyone.

I chose not to use nuts and my chips were not Nestle brand, but I don’t think that changes the recipe much.

It turned out pretty good! I left them in a tad longer than I should have so they aren’t as gooey as I like, but that is more because of my oven than the recipe. If I don’t cook things too high then my smoke alarm doesn’t go off, but that means I’m always flying by the seat of my pants when something is in the oven.

I also greased the pan. I always grease the pan, even when the recipe specifically says not to. I’m just so scared of having what I’m making stick to the pan. If any of you readers out there can give me a good reason why I shouldn’tgrease the pan, then I’ll continue on as I always have. Guilt free.

These brownies are tasty, they aren’t dry, and I had all of the ingredients except for the chips.

What’s Tomorrow?

Generally if you’re baking and something has eggs in it, you’ll need to grease the pan; the eggs are the sticking culprit. If no eggs, you can rest a little easier. Don’t hold me responsible for any problems though.

So, what you’re saying is, I don’t get to blame you for my kitchen disasters? Then who will I blame?!

Thanks, I’m loving it so far. Maybe branching away from chocolate is a good thing after all.
