You may be surprised to learn that New York City doesn’t hold a variety of drive ins. So my friend Melanie and I celebrated today by just going to the movies.
It’s actually the first time that I’ve ever done this, but we saw two movies back to back. When we walked out, the day was mostly gone and we were starving. Next time we should do more planning.
The first movie we saw was Far From The Maddening Crowd. I had been excited about this ever since I saw the first preview, but had a few friends give me negative reviews. I shouldn’t have listened to them, and won’t again, because that movie is fantastic. I love the strong and independent woman in a time when women didn’t really get to be that way. She is a fantastic character full of flaws and all, but I was always on her side.
This trailer has my two favorite quotes:
- “It is my intention to astonish you all.”
- “It is difficult for a woman to define her feelings in a language chiefly made by men to express theirs.”
Go see this movie.
We then saw Tomorrowland. Pretty funny how different these two movies are. I was actually surprised at how much action/violence there was in Tomorrowland. I don’t know what I was expecting, but not that. I obviously hadn’t seen this trailer.
I really enjoyed this one as well. It’s been bothering me so much lately that all movies and books are portraying an apocalyptic future. Can’t we aspire to greatness? In one of the early scenes in the movie, all of our main character’s teachers are talking about how bad everything is and she just says, “how do we fix it? I get that it’s bad, but can we fix it?”
Let’s all think about that for a minute. Maybe so
