September 7th – Labor Day

AEA SM

Happy Labor Day everyone!

I’ll be honest. I still feel conflicted about my stance on Unions. Sometimes I think they do more harm than good. Any time there is a situation where a worker can slack off or do poorly at their job because they are protected from being fired by a union, the system is failing.

Still, I am a member of Actors Equity, the Stage Managers and Actors Union, and I do feel that for me it has done more good than harm.

I am still going to keep my eyes open for if that scale tips in the other direction, but today I am going to be grateful to be part of a Union that takes care of me. Also, thank you for the efforts of workers and unions in the past who won us breaks, weekends, and minimum wage.

Part of today’s celebration included watching 9 to 5. I’d never seen it before, but I sure loved it. Anyone stuck in a 9 to 5 job should definitely add that to their watch list.

Last night I took a walk through Central Park. It was crowded with families bbqing, picnicking, fishing, and playing. We’re all trying to squeeze as much as we can in to whatever we have left of summer. It won’t be long before we are wearing jackets, watching the leaves change, and drinking anything flavored with pumpkin.

But today, it’s still summer.

What’s Tomorrow?
