Celebrating National Days

I do a lot of things. I live in New York City and work as a Stage Manager in Theatre. I’m also a contributing writer to The Zagg Blog. My life is hectic and busy all the time. Just like yours.

Over the past several months, I’ve been noticing I wasn’t as happy and outgoing as normal. Living and working in New York was tough, but I had also just sunk into a funk. So, July 2014 I decided to do something about it.

Facebook Idea

I had come across National Day Calendar, followed them on Twitter, and thought it might be a fun month long adventure. I got started on August 1, 2014.

About two weeks in, I was already noticing a difference.

I can’t say I’m surprised that it impacted my life. I was spending a moment every day to appreciate something around me. It was getting me out into my community, both locally and online. I was seeing, eating, and appreciating something new every single day. This fun month long adventure had broken me out of my funk in less than two weeks.

With August coming to an end, I started to wonder if I should just keep going. I was having the time of my life, so it only made sense.

That’s what this blog is. My continued adventures of celebrating something every day. I am using NationalDayCalendar.com as my source of National Days. My experiences will be a variety of fun, introspective, serious, and goofy. They’ll always be positive. I invite you to come along and experience this with me.

I’m always open to suggestions on ways to celebrate certain days, and I’d love it if you share with me any celebrations you’ve had. Get in touch in the comments section, or follow me on Twitter @LizProBackstage.

UPDATE:

January 2016, I decided to conclude my daily celebration of National Days. It was an incredible 17 months, but I was feeling ready for something new and exciting. All celebrations are still here for you to check out. As are all the recipes that I gave a whirl.

Thanks for joining me on that journey! I really hope you’ll stick around for my continued adventures.
