In The Sound of Music, Maria talks about, “my mountains.” I understand what she means. I love mountains, and I can’t stop looking at them when I’m back home, and not just any mountains will do. This is the winter view of my mountains from the street outside my family’s house in Utah.
With those mountains I always knew which direction I was headed in. We could go from house to skiing in 45 minutes. A get together for a fire and s’mores is super easy. I have a really big fear of tornados. I won’t go so far as to say it’s my biggest fear, but it’s really close. When I’m home in Utah, those mountains are my protection from anything like that.
And they are just so pretty. Right?
Just hangin out. Protecting you from tornados and giving you a pretty backdrop for photos.
Remember when you were a kid and drew pictures of your house? What did you put in the background? I put snow peaked mountains. It was all I knew. It wasn’t until recently that I started to wonder what other kids drew on the back of their pictures.
New York kids draw the city skyline. Do kids from Arizona just draw a blazing sun? What about kids from Pennsylvania? A forrest of Christmas Trees? Hawaii kids probably draw the ocean. Or maybe the jungle. Interesting to think about.
I spent a good chunk of my day today packing. In just 3 short days, I’ll be home with my family and my mountains. Home for Christmas.
