December 28th – National Chocolate Candy Day and Card Playing Day

wpid-wp-1419838955845.jpegYay! An activity! There really should be more National Days based off of activities. My family loves playing games, so this one was easy. We got together and played Phase 10. I didn’t win, but I was a close 2nd. I only lost by 10 points.

You may not be able to see it, but there are Whoppers and Craisins on the table. That was to celebrate chocolate candy day. That’s my Aunt in the pink. She’s been really amazing at helping me celebrate these National Days. When I said I wasn’t sure how long I’d keep doing this, she basically told me I had to do it forever.

Bonus picture: I ate some Fruit Cake today since the opportunity was stolen from me yesterday. (I’d eaten most of it before I remembered to take the photo.)

It’s my Grandmother’s recipe, and it’s pretty good. My dad eats it and just says, “this takes me back.”

Food does that. It’s an important way to remember people and times. I think that with the internet and ease of finding new recipes, people are losing the importance of old family recipes that “take you back.” If this blog is going to turn me in to some kind of cook/chef/baker, maybe I should consider saving all of these recipes (and my adaptations) so that someday people can use them to remember me. But perhaps I’m getting ahead of myself.

What’s Tomorrow?
