December 31st – New Years Eve

This year I rang in the new year with my little sister, her husband, and the new baby.

I don’t really get out much to party on New Year’s Eve. That’s never really been of interest to me. I do, however, enjoy contemplating the last year and how much has happened. I started off the year thinking it would go one way, but it went so much better.

Last year New Year’s Eve my sister printed off these goal sheets for us. This is what I wrote:

My One Word Is: YES.

I spent all of 2014 saying YES to opportunities. Being open and willing to do things that otherwise would have given me second thoughts meant that I worked on a lot of different shows and met so many wonderful people.

What I really want in 2014 is: Freedom, Excitement, and Friends.

The beginning of 2014 was a lonely one, but a lot is different now. Along with 2 of my best friends moving to New York, I have also been blessed with many wonderful people in my life and a lot of excitement and freedom to enjoy them. Nothing helps me realize my freedom more than going home to visit my siblings who are married and have kids.

What I really need in 2014 is: A New Apartment.

This was my MAIN goal for 2014. All I knew was that by Jan 1, I would not be living in the same place. I worked harder and longer than any other time in my life, tucking every penny away for my new apartment. In November I was able to sign a lease. Before I left New York I packed all my belongings, and when I get back there next week, I’ll be moving into my new apartment. This is absolutely the greatest thing that’s happened all year.

What I will share in 2014 is: Compliments, Time, and Emotional Support for others.

While this is something that I can always improve upon, I do think that I have taken a step forward this past year.

In 2014 I will succeed at: Being able to support myself enough to also help others.

I’ve never been able to give much, but one of my favorite memories of this past year was when I shaved my head. We raised over $1,200 for children’s cancer research at St. Baldricks, then I donated my hair to Wigs For Kids. (You can still donate here.)

The 180 my life took in the past year is incredible. Life isn’t always going to be wonderful or easy, but if I’ve learned one thing this year it’s that goals really do make a difference. I’m so grateful for the wonderful people in my life, the experiences I had, and the place that I am in now. I’m really quite excited for 2015.

Take a moment in the next few days to fill out this sheet. It changed my life, maybe it’ll change yours.

What’s Tomorrow?

January 1
