May 1st – National Space Day

My original plan for today was to go to The Museum of Natural History. Can someone please explain to me why that museum closes at 5:45? This is New York City for crying out loud.

So I asked my Dad to send me some of the photos he’s taken of the moon. The photo above is the one that I took of the moon today. It never looks very good when I take these pictures, but I take them every month.

Here are my dad’s:

That last one is my favorite. So cool.

I love the moon. I love that it looks the same no matter where I am, that it lights up the sky when it’s full, and that it’s an ever constant reminder of passing time. I try to live my life instead of just letting it happen to me, but sometimes I get lazy. The reminder that I don’t have all the time in the world is important for me.

I use the Widget Moon 3D on my phone. It always shows the phase that the moon is in. If you’ve got an Android phone and a love of all things lunar, you should check it out.

What’s Tomorrow?

May 2nd
