July 26th – National Aunt and Uncle’s Day

Today I am giving a shout out to my Aunt Camille. She is one of the most caring, supportive, and welcoming people I’ve ever met. I grew up living very close to her and saw how she has opened her home to so many people. Everyone is welcome at her house and her table, and everyone feels special being there.

This is one of my favorite pictures of her.

She’s the best.

There is a Humans of New York quote that I felt perfectly described her.

Side-note: Do you follow Humans of New York? If you don’t, change that now and change your life. Brandon goes around New York City taking amazing photos and talking to people. He then posts these photos with a quote from them.

This quote made me think of Camille.

Neat moment at the Webbys last night. Fresh off the $1.1 billion sale of his company, David Karp was there with his mother, Barbara. Though I’d never met her before, Barbara came over to my seat and gave me the world’s biggest hug. She kept saying: “I am so, so proud of you.” I said to David: “Your mom just made me feel like the most special guy in the world.” He said: “That’s how she’s made me feel my whole life.”

Humans of New York Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr.

I’m grateful for that kind of love in my life.

She’s also been at the receiving end of more than one phone call when I’m trying to bake something for one of these National Days but I don’t have the necessary equipment. “You do everything the hard way” she said.

That’s pretty true.

I’ve got several other wonderful Aunts and Uncles who I do not see as much as I should. I’m really going to be better at that. Because family is important.

What’s Tomorrow?

July 27th
