I had my housewarming party tonight.
In 2014 I worked like a crazy person and squirreled away as much money as I could. My singular goal was getting out of my old apartment and creating a place I could call home in this amazing but hectic and stressful city. I found it.
I moved in 3 weeks ago, and tonight, broke bread with friends to turn it from an apartment into a home. There was food and hugging, and a lot of laughter. I have some amazing friends.
To celebrate, I asked that my guests bring or create something for me to hang on my wall. Some people made drawings at the party. Others arrived with art they had already created. My walls are a lot more colorful now than they were before.
The art inspires me, but these friends inspire me more. It’s wonderful to celebrate with people that are happy for you. No jealousy or cattiness. Just friendship and support.
This blog is now 6 months old. I’ve been celebrating every day since August 1st, and it has been insanely fun. Looking around my room now, I see evidence of past celebrations. My rollerblades from National Thrift Store Day, the quote that a friend sent on National Just Because Day, hats organization from National Hat Day, and now art from my friends for National Inspire Your Heart With Art Day. And these are only the ones I can see from where I’m sitting.
Tonight I’m grateful for a welcoming home, and friends that fill it with laughter. And I’m grateful for the art.
